SEMINAR: OCTOBER 9, 2026

Land, sea, air, cyberspace and, now, space: the space domain has become a new arena for competition between states, with direct implications for essential systems including navigation, communications, energy and finance.

The seminar, entitled “The 5th Operational Domain” and held by Brigadier General Danilo Figà – Commander of the Space Operations Command, will explore the evolution of space as an operational domain and its role in emerging strategic and security scenarios.

The discussion will address multi-domain operations and their integration, the role of the Italian Defence in the space domain, the challenges posed by hypersonic technologies, and the evolving balance of deterrence.

Particular attention will be given to the contribution of engineering in areas such as propulsion, materials, sensing technologies and complex systems, which are becoming increasingly important to the strategic autonomy of Italy and Europe.
