SEMINAR: OCTOBER 11TH, 2024

The seminar titled “The Fifth Domain of Operations: Space”, held by General Danilo Figà, Chief of Staff, Space Operations Command is an integral part of the innovative course Geopolitics for Defense and Security and will cover Multidomain Military Operations (Domains 4, 5, 6?). It will provide a brief overview of the concept of multidomain operations, the connections between them, and NATO’s approach. The Space Domain will then be described, focusing on current developments, international scenarios, and types of military space assets.

We’ll also explore how Italy’s Defense is organized in the space sector and what international exercises involving Italy reveal. In the fourth part of the seminar, we’ll analyze the hypersonic challenge linked to the Space Domain, with a brief look at the hypersonic threat, key technologies, and the importance of mastering the Space Domain as a facilitator and enabler of hypersonic defense capabilities.
