SEMINAR: MAY 15TH, 2024

“The words are war trumpets,” warned Thomas Hobbes more than two centuries ago.

Aware of the power of language and the necessity to understand what lies behind cryptic military terms, Paolo Capitini and Mirko Campochiari have decided to develop this theme of great importance through a series of seminars that has turned into a book.

It won’t be a listing of military terms dictionary-style, nor an exposition for specialists or insiders, but rather a conversation designed for those who know little or nothing about war yet find themselves confronted with it on the news or involved in discussing it. The theme will cover the fundamental pillars of modern warfare, ranging from various types of warfare to the principles governing it, organizational forms, geographical dimensions, logistics, and the characteristics of those who wage war on the battlefield. The primary goal is to contribute to an initial education on a subject that should not only be the subject of political or moral disputes but should be preliminarily understood in its most concrete meanings, to create widespread awareness on such a divisive topic.
